So today Zemgus Girgensons is a guy that is on his way out of Buffalo because he isn't good enough, and should just be happy to accept his qualifying offer.

However, for the past couple of weeks, he has been the core piece of the package that would net you a young top 4 dman.

Let me see if I can figure this out. Buffalo isn't making a qualifying offer to Girgensons but they're not signing him either? That makes sense to make him pull the ol' Danny Briere even though he's an RFA. Seems legit.

Girgs is just as good as Komarov. Would Komarov be a key piece in landing you guys a young top 4 dman?

Girgs is on his way out of Buffalo because we are packed to the gills with forwards and he's our best forward that can get us anything of value. He's an RFA so that makes him the most tradeable top 6 forward we have.

Except he is not a top 6 forward. He is young and he may improve, but he is far from a blue chip prospect. Established young top 4 defenders dont go maybe prospects. They are traded for established wingers or blue chip prospects, neither of which Girgs is.

As for komarov. No he does not get you Cam Fowler, nor does any package that is centered around him. He is a nice piece to have on your 3rd. Any team that is counting on him or Girgs to be ìn there top 6 is more likely playing for a lottery pick, not a playoff spot.
